Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. After her father's divorce from her family members, she was raised up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. As a child, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford became interested in the acting profession during her teenage years and she joined National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she would not be a good choice for this school. Ford was then able to apply for a spot in the Central School of Speech and Drama and received an acceptance on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford's first appearance on television was the 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared in TV shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning in the Nineties. The regular theatre work she performed has led to her joining The Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedy, that were added to her show in the year 1996.
